The winners have been announced in the “ 2008 King Noob SEO ” Contest!
  Third: http://directory-yicrosoft.blogspot.com/
  Second: http://yicrosoftdirectoryblog.blogspot.com/
    First: http://yicrosoftdirectorywinner.blogspot.com/

By my reckoning I finished 10th, I'll try & get some official confirmation & post back here :)
I would like to mention that I entered into this contest in order for me to step out of my comfort level a little & I've enjoyed the challenge of learning new concepts.
I approached with the mentality of a Web Designer & as you may see on this post:
What is the Responsibility of a Web Designer in Regards to SEO?

I may not have the best skills in:
  Link building
  Link baiting
  Content creation
  SMM
  Press release writing
  Sales copy
    To sum up:

Would I conduct a SEO Campaign for a client? Probably not, but I'm sure that I've demonstrated the points that Cory made about producing good code & the correct structure.
If you can see from all this that SEO is hard work & you would rather hire a true professional I highly recommend a fellow Australian, Brendon Sinclair , he's a friendly bloke & passionate about what he does.
If you would like me to build you a website please visit my site: www.ozwebfx.com . you will see that I will give you an obligation free Estimate & I offer a 100% Money-Back Guarantee because I am confident that you will be extremely pleased with any of my services.
If you've liked some of the stuff I've talked about here then step on over to my blog .. I'll promise to post more regularly in the future & update my Portfolio Page so please subscribe to the ozwebfx newsletter & I'll let you know soon.
So, thanks for reading & once again congratulations to all the entrants.
    Cheers, Richard.

29th yicrosoft directory page

The Twenty Ninth Yicrosoft Directory day ..

    What's your website score?
Meg over at Blog Pond asks "Have you ever wondered how well optimised your website is? What I mean by that, is how easy your content is to find on search engines."
Website Grader is an online tool that gives your website a score out of 100 and prepares a pretty comprehensive report (ready within a couple of minutes).
Michael Gray takes another point of view: Why Website Grader is a Bad Idea
"I came across Website Grader via Guy Kawasaki’s website today and I have to say this is one of the worst ideas I have ever seen, worse than that it’s downright dangerous in the wrong hands!"

Table-Based Layout Is The Next Big Thing
The recently-launched SitePoint CSS Reference (and its print version, The Ultimate CSS Reference ) contains extensive coverage of some of the more obscure areas of CSS. One such area that is going to become very important with the release of IE8 later this year is CSS tables.
For years now, enlightened designers who have embraced CSS layout have had to bend over backwards to produce complex designs that would have been trivial to produce using the HTML table-based layout techniques of the past.
The lengths to which designers must go to produce, say, a simple three-column layout using CSS techniques are so extreme that many web designers simply give up on CSS and resort to HTML tables for their layout. The Tech Times #142 and #143 were devoted to this issue.
With the release of IE8 coming this year, the stage is set for all that to change. IE8 will be the last of the major browsers to add support for CSS tables, which will enable designers to use table-based layout techniques without misusing HTML table markup.

Microsoft has declared a truce with the open source community.

The Redmond giant said that they would make available, for no cost, the APIs for Office and Windows Server initially, and eventually the APIs for Windows Vista, the .NET Framework, Windows Server 2008, SQL Server 2008, Office 2007, Exchange Server 2007, and Office SharePoint Server 2007.

The one gotcha attached to the arrangement is that Microsoft has pledged not to sue open source developers working on non-commerical software -- the moment money becomes involved , Microsoft patents and royalities kick in.

The move has not received universal acclaim with the European Commission expressing doubt over whether Microsoft would actually do what it stated it would and saying that the announcement would not affect its antitrust investigations against the software giant.

"The Commission would welcome any move towards genuine interoperability," read the statement. "Nonetheless, the Commission notes that today's announcement follows at least four similar statements by Microsoft in the past on the importance of interoperability."

It's been a big week for Microsoft as it has been fined a record 899 million euros by the Commission for defying sanctions imposed on the company for abusing its dominant position in the software market. Microsoft als o announced students would be able to get their hands on free copies of Microsoft's Visual Studio, Server 2003 Standard Edition, Expression Studio, XNA studio for developing Xbox 360 software and SQL Server 2005.

The free developer tools announcement was discussed by Bill Gates in a video interview .

23rd yicrosoft directory page

The Twenty Third Yicrosoft Directory day ..
    The best Web Analytics Products

The evolution of SEO to DAO
Interesting article over at Search Insider
" The future of SEO as defined today is a bleak one. Whether we merely change the description of SEO or use a new acronym like DAO, the days of success being optimization for 10 text links on a standard results page is going to end up just like our old description of the engines: as dinosaurs. Extinct dinosaurs. "

21st yicrosoft directory page

The Twenty First Yicrosoft Directory day ..

Do Search Engines Get Bored ?

From the Search Engine Optimization Forum at Web Pro World
If a site seems to 'work' - the visitors (mostly new) appear happy with the content/structure etc, and the search engines are happy to rank it - is there any value in making small, regular changes to the content to make it appear 'fresher' to the engines, even if this does nothing for the visitor?

I've read that fairly static sites may get crawled less frequently but so what?

I tend to the view that 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' - unless you can make the visitor experience more worthwhile. On the other hand, algorithms don't have feelings.
